On Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)

crushing and hopeless

with moments of quiet, unyielding rage

lost, terribly flawed people trying to navigate their insurmountable sadness and trauma, unsure of what next to do but still walking willfully towards whatever their next action is, regardless of its repercussions and rebelling against that very uncertainty

mcdonagh really knows how to write lost souls and their futile searches for purpose, yet again setting this story in a small remote location where the characters are stuck in an almost echo chamber of herd mentality, doubling down on their own inner struggles and dealings with other people
