Thoughts on Y Tu Mamá También (2001)

This movie is so extremely distressing yet oddly beautiful,

It presents all facets of life through the lens of relentless hedonism (expressed through the machismo of adolescent showboating) of two city kids against a backdrop of poverty that is not acknowledged once throughout the film by the characters within it, instead being brought to the viewer's attention by an unseen narrator that exposes the unspoken bias and bigger picture of all within it.

This film has so much intention between each of the main trio of characters; the romanticization of the pursuit of pleasure by boys who can barely experience it, the class divide between the rich and the poor that neither side wants to acknowledge, the masked bravado of the young and inexperienced that shies away in the face of the experience of life that belongs to the old; all explored in depth to a great degree.

I don't think I'll rewatch this a great many times or at all, but the experience will stick with me for a great while; this movie is life itself
