Thoughts on Buffalo '66 (1998)

fascinating

fractured man, he is unable to receive or give love
there is so much darkness and malice that has seeped into him.
he craves normalcy yet rejects it, because that is the only response he knows
Layla as the last hope, the only figure that shows a willingness to accept him as he is (to the point it seems misguided), the one who can pull him out of this murkiness

makes you wonder how much of this is Gallo and how much of it is Billy; whether this hopefulness for change was something shared by Gallo, if in making this film he was pleading to have that one person to shower him with unwavering love and praise no matter how baseless. 

there's an tinge of ugly selfishness that bleeds through in that sentiment, the very fibre of this film seems to operate off of this self-pitying and destructive ethos of toxicity
