Thoughts on Cure (1997)
who are you?
a detached weariness bubbles to the surface like scum across a pond
the oddness of reality becomes obvious to us, patterns emerge and punctuate the silence; the flickering of a cigarette, the drone of a washing machine, the rumblings of a train track... the dry humming of a world that seems to exist without us
do we play the roles in our lives out of alienating necessity or from the true purity of purpose? what is at the core of your being?
mamiya acts as catalyst to the confrontation of this reality, forcing his victims to reach hollow epiphany
takabe is already living a false life, a faceless phantom hiding behind duty and a mechanical life...
only those that are familiar with the falseness and the isolation it brings can deal with this abrupt realisation, weariness as the heart's palpitations for a life past disaffection
